Late Night Toothbrushing

Gray is getting over a bad cold/mild flu (that he passed on to me and I'm getting over). His sleep schedule is all messed up. Last night he got up, and wouldn't let up. We let him out of his crib, and he insisted on going to the boys bathroom. He wanted to brush his teeth. It was so cute because he was so serious about it. He stood on the step stool and brushed away. He watches me brush my teeth. In elementary school a dental hygenist told us to brush our tongue for fresh breath. When I do, I gag a little, and then I spit. After Gray had brushed for a while, he made a fake gag noise twice, and then tried to spit. I know this probably won't sound that cute, but it was ADORABLE when he did that (keep in mind that he is 1 1/2 years old, and everything babies do at this age is adorable). G and I both just laughed and laughed. That little rash on his face is from eating fresh strawberries. I'm thinking he'll grow out of this mild allergy.

This comment goes out to all the babies of the family:
Babies of the family have always had the reputation for being lazy and for having things done for them. While this makes sense, and I do think there were a few times that Cathy took over a project I complained about, for the most part this is a really unfair characterization. I think it is equally likely that being the youngest inspires a child to keep up with their siblings. This was the case with Daniel in some ways, and with Timmy before Daniel came along. I also like to think it was the case with me. Grayson's placement among his brothers has made him more observant of all the things they are able to do independently, and it makes him want to be independent too. Good for him!! It's good for him to learn the gagging part to. It's good, solid emphasis. It says, "I am finished brushing my teeth and will now spit."

also - Nicholas, Nona's son, also had an allergic reaction to strawberries at that age, but Nona had a reaction from those same strawberries as well. I don't think it means that he is going to be allergic to strawberries.

I loved that! "It says, 'I am finished brushing my teeth and will now spit.'"

I vaguely remember Dad saying that I had been allergic to mangos when we lived in Panama. I have always loved mangos and haven't had a reaction that I can remember. I probably had a similar reaction to what Grayson is having.
