Sasha The Peacemaker

Sasha went to wait for us in our mansion in Heaven. In Heaven she'll be able to talk like the animals in The Chronicles of Narnia. She was getting older, and I knew we would lose her someday, but I thought we'd have more time...

She was such a good dog. Sometimes I would pretend fight with the boys, and Sasha
would get between us. She would try distraction to get my attention.

When our first son Jeremy was born, my mom came to visit. Sasha did not know her. Wherever Jeremy was, Sasha would stand between Jeremy and my mom. If my mom walked across the room, Sasha would slowly walk in a perimeter around Jeremy, staying between him and my mom. That was her way of protecting the "alpha pup". Eventually my mom and Sasha became good friends (after maybe five years).

She liked to woo-woo, and I could get her to woo-woo "I love you".

She loved the snow and the cold. Sometimes if it was a particularly beautiful night sky, she would woo-woo for us to let her inside, but then when we opened the back door, she would run into the yard like, "come on, guys. It's beautiful out here. Come look at God's universe."

When the boys played outside, she knew it was her job to watch them. She had this dignity and wisdom about her. We got her in '98 from the city pound, and she has been a Godsend.

Sasha, we'll miss you
. You were one of the best friends I've ever had.

I wish she could have hung on until Randy and I got to pet her one last time.

That's the only hard thing about looking at her pictures - is the incredible urge to show her love.

I understand how old she was and that from time to time she would have hip problems, but I am sad to not be able to give her one last hug.
