I went to Clay Cafe today to celebrate a friend's birthday. I didn't have time to do much because two of my employees called in sick, and I couldn't spend much time away from the office. I picked out three small gingerbread men Christmas ornaments. It was fun. I painted them brown and used puffy paint to put red buttons on them and black smiley faces with smiling eyes and white trim all around. They'll be cute. The other women were stay-at-home-moms (you go, girlfriends!), so they had larger more elaborate projects.
I'd love to get in there and make a teapot and some tea cups or maybe a platter or something. That's just one more thing that will have to wait until I'm old. My plan was to be a SAHM, but I'm okay with juggling both work and kids. It can be challenging, but G has been a wonderful partner, and the fact is- he's changed more diapers than me...

You are Woman, and we hear ya roarin'!
Seriously, you do womankind proud. You are a freakin' doctor. I know people sometimes don't treat you like one out of their own effin' ignorance, but you went to four rigorous years of optometry school after getting your BS and then had to pass tests that would make most people weep. You also are in a career that was predominantly male when we were children, but here you are living proof for our nieces and any future daughters in our family that women are as capable as men. It's always going to be difficult for women to negotiate family and work, and if some woman figures out how to do it - boy will she sell millions with that book. So don't ever beat yourself up over not being able to stay home. I know you know the studies that show that when fathers do equal child rearing the children perform better in school and are even more popular. I love your family, and I am proud of you.
