Old Style

I am blogging today in the style that I started with. I woke up this morning to the sound of little voices in the family room. Jon and Jer were playing this Scooby Doo CD game on the computer. Sleepily, I got up so G could sleep in because he never gets to. I sat on the loveseat and listened to them play. They really do work together as a team well. Normally they get along, but lately I've heard some "teenager-esque" snarky remarks. This morning it was all brotherly love and friendship.

A few minutes later I heard the humidifier in Gray's room as he opened his door. He shuffled in for a second until he realized Dada was not in there. So he shuffled over to our bedroom and opened the door. He's such a Daddy's boy!

For breakfast we gave the boys the breakfast bars that we bought for the snow storm that never was. I am so disappointed that it was so mild, but that's good, right? A big storm could have caused power outages and more accidents. But hunkering down with my family while blizzard-like conditions raged around us seemed nice.

It was decided that, even though there was some minor ice and snow on some roads, we could make it to church. Our church, like most here, canceled Sunday School and early services, so we just had our 10:45 service. I've learned to clip my morning routine down, so it only takes me an hour to get ready- shower, drying my hair, make-up and all. But because I clipped that down, I have made my morning coffee time longer, and I always cut it to the last minute. Because G had mentioned going early, I got started a little early today. We left the house at 10:15.

At church the parking lot was maybe 20% full. When I went to Gray's toddler room, it was empty. It wound up being me watching the boys while G got to play drums and listen to the service. He did go get a tv so we could watch an Adventures in Odyssey video, and the boys had fun playing with all the toys which were all toddler toys, but my big boys had a surprisingly good time with them.

As we got home I looked in the back of the van, and Gray had fallen asleep holding his Christmas book. He woke up as I got him out of his carseat. He wanted me to take his socks and shoes off. When I got him in his room, I took off his sweater and layed him in his bed. G walked in, and we tucked Gray in for his nap.

We let the boys play in the snow while we made lunch. We had breakfast burritos. As PWT as this sounds, we had fried bologna, egg, and cheese burritos. We don't normally have bologna, but I bought it for sandwiches just in case we lost power. I don't care what anyone thinks- fried bologna tastes good!

As we sat down to lunch, G played an old "mix" from the early 90's. We haven't done that in a while. The first song was Eric Clapton's Bad Love. The third song was a blues song, and Jeremy asked, "is this the blue's?" I was so impressed that he even knew what that was. He told me that he learned about the blues from that PBS show Arthur.

I don't know. Maybe we should only listen to Christian music on Sunday. It's just that we listen to Christian music everyday. We listen to it in our cars and on our computer- mainly because there is some really good Christian music out there now, and we don't have to worry about there being anything offensive or confusing for the boys. The music does keep us in focus and sometimes I worship or pray because of something I've heard. But we also enjoy secular music, and it just seems like as we do our Sunday rest and relaxation, we just wind up pulling out some old music that we like. I don't think that's wrong.

After the burritos, I got out the whole wheat Ritz crackers and the can of Easy Cheese that I bought just in case the storm was bad (oh my gosh!!! I AM one of those people who stocked up on food! No really, I wasn't all that bad. People were buying cases of Ramen and buying up all the meat, milk, and eggs. Okay, okay I did buy some emergency stuff but in a NORMAL way). Jon loved the crackers and spray cheese, but Jer definitely did not.

So both boys are having quiet time while Gray sleeps, and G has been watching me type out this blog post. And that's about where we are. Here is Eric Clapton's Bad Love...
