Fourth of July

It was a great Fourth of July. We had a Mom style barbecue. She always made salad that no one liked. She'd put in iceberg lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and then she'd serve it with Thousand Island dressing. I made a mom style salad, but I tried to make it a little more interesting. She smothered everything in barbecue sauce, and I bought some barbecue sauce to do that, but then I decided no one would like everything smothered in barbecue sauce. I did buy Pepsi which was Mom's drink of choice for special barbecues.

My sister and her guy are foodies, and they made bruschetta. Her guy is half Italian and into gourmet. I made brown sugar and molasses baked beans. Thankfully we made corn on the cob because that is the only thing one of my boys ate. My dh made his strawberry pie. Yum.

We sat in the backyard and watched the fireworks display nearby. It ended about the time the city's display started. We could see that from our backyard also. It was a good one.

Gray was as brave as he could be, but toward the end, he ran into the house crying. It was adorable. It was as if he couldn't be brave for any longer, and he was firm that it was time for it to be over. It was way past his bedtime.
