Got some good news about Jon today. We had him assessed by a private speech therapist at a place in town that specializes in providing physical and speech therapy to children. She called today to let me know about some of her findings. She did a non-verbal IQ test and said that it is very high. There is a big discrepency in where he scored with language and verbal stuff and where he scored on his IQ test. I think she said he tested at a ten year old's level (he just turned seven). I didn't ask for clarification because there were other things I wanted to discuss and figured I'd find out when I get the report anyway. G and I knew he was smart already, but I was a little worried that he will always have problems academically. She is optimistic that he won't. His school strongly recommended that we retain him in first grade. He isn't failing, but he is behind. After careful consideration, we agreed. The speech therapist feels this is an appropriate decision. Sometimes it's hard to know what is the best decision for our kids. I think we're doing the right thing.
Here are some pics!

I was about to complain about the extended period without pictures of the boys, so thankfully you prevented me from having to be a nag.
One thing to think about with Jon is that you can retain him now, but you can keep in the back of your head the idea of accelerating him later - especially if there is an approrpiate time (such as a move or something where it wouldn't be as noticeable). It's okay to retain him now as far as maturity and heigth goes, but there could be a time where he will feel alienated - like he is way older than everyone else or else he will have a moustache when others are nowhere near that.
I always knew he was smart, too.
