Salmon Chowder

salmon chowder
I wanted to make something that we had ingredients for, and a Sunset magazine in the waiting room at the office had a picture of a yummy looking chowder. I found this recipe on allrecipes.com. It turned out well. Jon ate seconds and G ate thirds. I got Jer to eat most of it which is good for him. Gray got 70% on the table, his bib, or the floor, but the 30% he got in his mouth he seemed to like. I had two 5.65oz cans of wild caught salmon in the pantry that I needed to do something with, and I took two 6oz salmon fillets out of the freezer for this recipe and put them in the oven for twenty minutes before adding them to the soup. I used 1/4 the amount of dill. I'm not fond of dill, but I think the soup needed a little of it. I followed the recipe fairly closely otherwise, and it was an easy and quick dish. I did garnish with a sprinkling of paprika and parsley. I had to make it my own somehow. G picked up a hot loaf of french bread from Albertsons, and a six pack of O'Doul's. It's a non-alcoholic beer, but I think it tastes as good, and it only has 90 calories per bottle! That's less than light beer. Why drink real beer? Might as well go for a soda- nobody hurts... nobody dies (song by Kim Mitchell in the mid 80's).

G put on some dinner music as I was finishing up and getting Gray out of his booster. His selection was a live album. He chose Rush, and he started with Marathon. Gray ran into the dining room and started dancing, so I started dancing with him. It's not that easy of a song to dance to, but Gray was doing all these great moves, from pointing his fingers in the air, to spinning in circles, to clapping his hands. Every time I hear Rush, I think of Western Playland. The guys who were in charge of the La Rouletta ride seemed to like just two songs- Tom Sawyer (Rush) and Crazy Train by Ozzy.

Chris, these pictures are for you. Gray really is good on the drums, and I'm not just saying that beause I'm his mom. He can keep a beat. The boys are looking forward to seeing you again. Jer wants to do some kind of science experiment with salt and water. He also wants to make a volcano.
